Coaching in any sport is vital to your success out on the water. We are passionate about passing on our knowledge of all things kayaking to you giving you the tools to use on the water while out on your own. As a qualified British canoeing sea kayak coach I can work with you on moderate water skills up to and including force 4 conditions and tidal speeds up to 2 knots which can make for some epic sea kayak conditions.
We are running sea kayak coaching weekends at different locations throughout the year. We will cover a range of skills that you will need to be a great sea kayak leader or great confidence in our personal ability from navigation to the art of self rescue in moderate conditions.
During our sessions you will have to opportunity to lead the other members of the group putting leadership skills to the test in real life conditions. You will be able to plan your own route for the trip with timings and we can see how they play out during the day. Learning to lead a group through rock hopping with position of best use is a great
skill to learn and you get the best pictures from these spots.
Group Size: Maximum group size of 6 per trip.
Age restrictions: Minimum age of 16 years old
Ability Level: Intermediate to advanced . Sea kayak award (3 star sea kayak) minimum skill level
Enjoyment Level: High
Equipment: We have a fleet of P&H sea kayaks with both the Delphin and Scorpio you can try both sea kayaks and find out which style suits you best. All kayaking trips include; kayak hire, buoyancy aids, paddles and a dry bag for your valuables. During your coaching you will get to learn how to use OS maps compasses and navigation chart which will be supplied by your guide/instructor.
Things to bring: Please ensure you wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions and it is advisable to bring some spare dry clothes, although the majority of people do not end up in the water unless they choose to. Trainers or wetsuit shoes are ideal, but be prepared to get them wet. It is important to wear sunscreen even on cloudy days.
Wetsuits/drysuits are not supplied by us and are recommended for the Moderate water coaching. We also recommend that you bring any sea kayaks or equipment you normally use on the water so you can receive coaching in your chosen craft. Please get in touch for any advice prior to the events.
Launch sites : Being based on the Jurassic coast we have multiple launch sites to give you the best coaching for the conditions . Swanage, Poole Harbour , Ringstead and Portland are just some of the sites you will visit during your adventures. We have the right to change venue which you will be informed before your course start date.
Anyone who books onto my sea kayak coaching sessions will be able to come and shadow sea kayak adventures on the Jurassic coast to see how trips are run and play the part of assistant leader.
